sign me up, babay
Dec. 18th, 2019 12:04 pmknow what's real nice?
i had been meaning to properly learn bsl for a while
seeing jacaster live some months back and being captivated by how much he gestures and the way he uses body language kinda crystallised that thought (how intrinsic movement is to communication! how intuitively and instinctively he uses it! how much expressive power we all have that we're not harnessing!)
passed my bsl 101 like a week ago, saw him again, was like "oh yeah! that was part of what nudged me, wasn't it"
then at one point he did a sort of mini sign-of-the-cross and i realised that's exactly the same as how our bsl teacher signs "bless you" when one of us sneezes (ngl, not v well versed religiously - no pun intended - i could have worked it out from context but that translation def helped me get the joke - or was it the joke that helped me get the etymology? either way: only connect, as my mum's been saying since before that was a tv show)
i'm now getting second-language interference when watching comedy shows performed in english and for a fucking nerd that is a very pleasantly brain-tickly state of affairs
(bonus: at one point when he did some sorta "gang" signs it looked like the word for "dog")
i now want to know a) does he, in fact, have any sign language from working in a special needs school and b) if not then CAN WE CAN WE FUCKING PLEASE have a maestro-type tv show where celebs learn to sign and get him on it I WOULD FUCKING MELT SEEING HIM SIGN
even in body language boy knows how to turn a goddamn phrase <3
